This month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on our talented colleague, Chaundra. Not only is Chaundra a skilled marketing and new business expert at MartinoWest, but she also passionately pursues dance with The Sacramento Contemporary Dance Theatre in her free time!
Recently, she had the opportunity of a lifetime – her dance troupe was invited to perform their show in Edinburgh, Scotland at the Fringe Festival. While it was an exhilarating experience, it came with its fair share of challenges.
The contemporary dance piece was inspired by the Salem Witch Trials, based on Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’. It received rave reviews and also came with some unexpected twists and turns. “I injured my knee back in March ’21 and had surgery that same year. During the 3rd performance (of 13!), I felt a pop in my knee, the ‘bad’ kind of pop. I pulled every ounce of strength I had to get through the show in severe pain!” Chaundra shared. The troupe had to modify the choreography for the remaining shows, and Chaundra did many hours of physical therapy to make it through.
After the performance run, Chaundra and her fiancé, Andy, extended their trip to explore more of Scotland. When asked about the most exciting part of their travels, she was hard pressed to pick a favorite. “Impossible to pick a favorite part, moment, or place, it was all amazing. We were like kids in a candy shop every time we stepped outside!”
One cultural experience stood out, though – Chaundra’s attempt at trying the local cuisine. “Ya know, I tried black pudding…and it was NOT for me. Just go look it up!” she laughed.
Chaundra’s advice “Take care of your body while you are traveling! And always say YES. You never know what will happen!”
